East Bengal edges past JCT to emerge NFL Runners-Up

East Bengal edge past JCT by a solitary goal in the 10th National Football League match played at Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata today and finished runners-up in the NFL.
The all important goal was scored by medio Jayanta Sen when he followed up a Cameroonian Ndem Kiyeck’s square pass from the right and fired a snap right footed long ranger that went in off the hands of JCT goalie Kalyan Choubey.
The tie saw the two teams dish out a fast, entertaining variety of football in the first half, before losing steam after the lemon break. The lacklustre second session experienced lots of bad passes by both the teams.
JCT seemed aggressive from the outset, and but for a fine display by East Bengal goalkeeper Rajat Ghosh Dastidar which helped the red & gold brigade from some close shaves. East Bengal also created several opportunities, but failed to increase their margin as their strikers failed to hit the target.
Jayanta Sen was adjudged Man of the Match.
East Bengal wrapped up their NFL engagements as runners up with 31 points from 17 games.
East Bengal will take on NFL & Federation Cup champions Mahindra United in their Super Cup encounter to be played in Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi on 27th May.
