East Bengal rout Army XI

After their Derby triumph last Sunday a new look East Bengal team maintained their winning sequence when they crushed Army XI 4-1in their sixth Kolkata League fixture at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata today.

With this win East Bengal now have 13 points from six matches and are putting pressure to climb to the top of the table. East Bengal fielded an young side as most of their players have left for ISL duty but this did not deter the Red and Golds to take control of the match from the kick off and dominate the proceedings thereafter.

Ranti Martins opened the scoring for East Bengal in the 28th minute when he converted a clinical pass from Saumik Dey. Earlier Dudu Omagbemi had spurned a sitter after being put through by Ranti Red and Golds led 1-0 at the half time.

Dudu made amends eleven minutes after the breather when he latched on to a long lob of Subodh Kumar and bulged the net with a thunderous drive. In the sixty ninth minute Dudu got his second after his first strike was partially blocked by the Army custodian Sharat Narayan, Dudu completed his hatrick in the 86th minute when he crashed home of an Anthony Soren pass.

In between Jain P scored a consolation goal for Army in the 71st minute. For East Bengal apart from their Nigerian strike duo, Subodh Kumar, Sukhwinder Singh, Gurwinder Singh, Safar Sardar and Saumik Dey had a good outing.
