East Bengal thrash Peerless

Defending Champions East Bengal opened the floodgates when they defeated Peerless SC 5-1 to notch their third consecutive victory in the Calcutta Football League – Premier Division A.


With this win East Bengal climbed to the top of the table with nine points from 3 matches.


East Bengal adapted quickly to the heavy underfoot conditions severely affected by the incessant downpour and opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Willis Plaza nodded in a cross by Al Amna.


Peerless restored parity ten minutes later when Syed Rahim Nabi scored from a goalmouth skirmish. Red and Golds came back strongly in the second half following two substitutions by coach Khalid Jamil - Surabduddin Mollick replacing Lalsanmawia Ralte in the 57th minute and Gabriel Fernandes in for VP Suhair on the stroke of the hour.


Gabriel scored the second goal in the 72nd minute when he scored of a Plaza assist while Surabuddin Mollick scored one of the fastest hatricks in CFL history when he scored in the 75th,76th and 94th minutes.


Surabuddin Mallick was adjudged Man of the Match.
