East Bengal return to winning ways

Birthday Boy Robin Singh covered himself with glory when he facilitated East Bengal to a 2-0 win vs Chennai City FC in their second Group A fixture of Hero Federation Cup at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today.


This win in Fed Cup came after a gap of 859 days as Red & Golds last won a match in the Cup was on 31.12.14 when they defeated Royal Wahingdoh 1-0. With this win East Bengal climbed to the pole position of Group A with 4 points from 2 matches.


East Bengal started at a slow pace and Robin Singh broke the deadlock in the added time of the first half when he bulged the net of a Plaza assist. Chennai came back strongly in the second half but East Bengal defense held firm.


Robin Singh converted a penalty in the 77th minute after Dharmaraj Ravanan handled the ball in the penalty box.


Mehtab Hossein, Gurwinder Singh, Robin Singh, Willis Deon Plaza (East Bengal) and D.Ravanan (Chennai) were booked in the match.


Robin Singh was adjudged Hero of the Match.
