East Bengal lose to Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC defeated East Bengal 4-1 in the final of Hero Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar today.

 

In a tale of two halves East Bengal emerged as the better team in the first half. Red and Golds were a trifle unlucky when Bengaluru FC Goal Keeper and former East Bengal star Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was saved from marching orders by Referee CR Srikrishna after charging with high boots on East Bengal striker Kromah.

 

East Bengal shot into the lead in the 28th minute when Kromah hooked the ball home after a partial save from Sandhu of a Katsumi Yusa free kick. Rahul Bheke another former East Bengal defender restored parity in the 39th minute when he nodded in a flag kick by Victor Perez. Rahul Bheke however did not celebrate after the goal.

 

Samad Ali Mallick was Red Carded close to half time for a foul on Subhasish Bose. Bengaluru took advantage of 10 man East Bengal and dominated the second half and pumped in 3 goals - the first from a penalty converted by Sunil Chhetri after Gurwinder had handled the ball in the penalty area. Miku scored a brilliant goal in the 70th minute after a Victor Perez assist. Sunil Chhetri completed the scoring in the 92nd minute when he nodded in a cross from Rahul Bheke.

 

Khalid Aucho, Mhmoud Al Amna, Ansumana Kromah, Joby Justin (East Bengal) & Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, John Johnson (Bengaluru) were booked in the match. Samad Ali Mallick (East Bengal) was Red Carded.
