East Bengal beat Mumbai City FC

East Bengal became the first Kolkata Club to beat an ISL team in a tournament when they pipped Mumbai City FC by odd goal in three at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar today.


With this win East Bengal qualified to Quarter Final where they will clash with Aizawl FC.


In a match dominated by the Red & Golds Mumbai City FC took the lead against the run of play when Achile Emana converted a brilliant free kick in the 22nd minute.


Katsumi Yusa restored parity for the Kolkata giants four minutes later when he nodded in an inch perfect cross from Laldanmawia Ralte. The teams were level 1-1 at the lemon break. East Bengal missed a number of scoring chances in the second half and finally the Man of the Match Mahmoud Al Amna seized on a partial clearance by Amrinder Singh and crashed the ball into the roof of the net in the 73rd minute for the winner.


Sehnaj Singh and Zakeer MP of Mumbai City were booked in the match.
